EL Department

Fremont County School District #38 primarily implements an English as a Second Language program, also known as English Language Development (ELD). This is a program of techniques, methodology, and special curriculum designed to teach EL students explicitly about the English language. The program includes the academic vocabulary needed to access content instruction and to develop their English language proficiency in all four language domains (i.e. speaking, listening, reading, and writing). ESL instruction is usually in English with little use of the EL student’s primary home language(s). ESL instruction is based on the student’s needs and grade level. The ELD models of instruction implemented by the District are research-based (supported by WIDA) and focus on the four domains of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. It also includes focusing on English language development standards that are based on communication skills for social and instructional purposes, as well as the content areas of Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

Please contact the English Language Coordinator for more information about the District's English Language Learners Program.
